The kind barista at Starbucks today asked me the following:

“Space in your redeye for cream?”

To which I responded: “I think this is the only social situation in which you can ask that question to someone you don’t know all that well.”

To get a Starbucks in your neighborhood meant that you were validated, in some sense. For Starbucks to leave means that your part of town, in terms of social psychology, is downwardly mobile. That, I think, is what most rattles folks about losing their Starbucks, even if they rarely went there. It’s a status thing.”

- Rod Dreher from the Dallas Morning News (via Starbucks Gossip) (via 147xxxx)

(via bradofarrell)

(via bradofarrell)

"Relationships are like startups. J made it work for now. we are still waiting for the new one to be built and delivered and installed.

then, there was a leak in the A/C system, very small, but it’d been actually bleeding all the way from the attic to the ceiling and eventually dropped on the carpet—just two drops.

the other day, the modem and the router were attacked and crushed by a roar of a thunder about a week ago. I’d never heard a thunderclap like that before. one of our smoke alarms broke the silence of the house immediately, and the internet died unexpectedly within seconds. thank nature god I still have the light.

so, the whole house was a mess.
